The
Federal Highway Administration estimates that nearly four out of five people injured or killed in a work-zone crash are motorists, not roadway construction workers. To avoid a collision, drivers should reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, be prepared to slow down or yield to construction workers and their equipment and obey all police-officer instructions. As with all driving situations, drivers should also minimize distractions. Speeding fines are doubled in work zones and are in addition to a $50 surcharge.
