New York ranks number eight on the list of states with the most registrations for V8-engine vehicles. According to the
Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Research and Information Center, the top three states are Wyoming, North Dakota and Alaska; the bottom three are Hawaii, Rhode Island and Connecticut. High gas prices and tightening emission standards have resulted in the production of fewer V8 engines recently. SEMA speculates that residents of rural areas need the more powerful engine for outdoor activities like towing and crossing rugged terrain, while urbanites generally prefer more fuel-efficient cars. V8 engines are typically used in sports cars, pickup trucks and SUVs.
