E-mail this ArticleThe Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is offering toll discounts for hybrid drivers who have an E-Z Pass account and vehicles that meet certain fuel-economy and emissions standards.
Hybrid owners whose vehicles achieve at least 45 mpg and meet low-emissions standards can register for the Green Pass Discount Plan. Currently, the vehicles that qualify include the Toyota Prius (models built between 2001 and 2008), Honda Civic hybrid (2003 to 2008) and Honda Insight (2000 to 2004). Under the plan, drivers pay $4—which is half of the normal toll fee—to use the Holland and Lincoln tunnels, the George Washington Bridge and the three crossings between New Jersey and Staten Island during off-peak hours.
To register, mail your request and a copy of your vehicle registration to: E-Z Pass New York Customer Service Center, P.O. Box 149004, Staten Island, NY 10314-9004. You will receive a green E-Z Pass tag once the center confirms your eligibility.
The New York State Thruway Authority offers a similar discount for owners of the same hybrid vehicles (see www.nysthruway.gov/ezpass for details).
