Greet Visiting Children With Hugs and Safety Seats
Original Publish Date - November 2006

Expecting youngsters from out-of-town for the Thanksgiving or December holidays? This may be the time to take advantage of AAA New York's free car seat loan program.

A limited number of infant, convertible and booster seats are available to members for up to two weeks. They can be picked up at a branch office, but advance reservations are required.

New York State law requires all children under the age of 4 to ride in safety seats. The law also requires that all children age 4, 5 or 6 be seated in booster seats unless they stand over 57 inches tall or weigh 100 pounds or more. The booster seats must be used along with a combination lap and shoulder belt where possible. When used properly, child safety seats are said to be as much as 70 percent effective in preventing deaths and serious injuries.

Call AAA New York at 516/873-2364, or 212/586-1166, 718/224-2222 or 914/948-4600, ext. 2364, to reserve a seat. Or e-mail AAA at webtrafficeng@aaany.com with the following information:

  • Membership number
  • Pick-up date (Monday-Saturday)
  • Branch office where you will pick up the car seat
  • Age, height and weight of child
  • Daytime phone number for confirmation

Note: All e-mailed requests will be confirmed via a call from AAA New York. Also, the car seat loan program is currently not available in the AAA club's Central and Tri-County regions.
